Sarah Farmer

Bio

For the last ten years, Sarah Farmer has worked with with Anne E. Streaty Wimberly at Youth Hope-Builders Academy, and she co-directs the Certificate in Theological Studies Program at Arrendale Women’s Prison. Her research interests include the concept of hope as it is operationalized in the lives of marginalized populations, particularly those who experience “confinement,” psychosocial identity and faith formation, community building, congregational studies, social change and transformative pedagogy. Sarah received her M.Div. from Emory University in 2008, where she has been teaching and working on her Ph.D. (completion expected this spring). Her dissertation is titled “Hope in Confinement: Moving Toward a Pedagogy of Restorative Hope.” 

Sarah’s research endeavors at the Center develop the project’s extensive interest in joy in adolescence, which will result in the publication of scholarly articles, an anthology, a major theological monograph, and curricular materials on both the foundations of joy and flourishing life and the spiritual resources supporting resilience in the face of various sources of adolescent suffering
