HUMS 4363: Herman Melville and Moby Dick

This seminar engages in the interpretation of a single great book, Moby-Dick (1851) by Herman Melville. We also read some of Melville’s most relevant earlier and later works, and pay attention to the book’s historical, literary, artistic, religious, economic, environmental, and technological contexts. Field trips to whaling-relevant sites possible.
