A Conversation With Christian Wiman

“I have had bones die and bowels fail; joints lock in my face and arms and legs, so that I could not eat, could not walk.”So writes Christian Wiman, who was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer at the age of 39.In his most recent essay collection, My Bright Abyss: Meditation of a Modern Believer(2013), Wiman addresses faith in the face of death. He has written for The New Yorker, the New York Times Book Review, The Atlantic, and numerous other publications. A former Guggenheim Fellow, he was the editor of Poetry magazine from 2003-2013.
